Time and time again, we are witnessing debates about whether F1 race cars are too easy to steer at the moment. Romain Grosjean, for example, recently explained that even driving a go-kart is more physically strenuous than in F1. Newcomer to F1 Lando Norris, when asked about this topic, said: "F2 is physically more strenuous than F1."
The F1 races are easier to operate thanks to the power steering. There is no such gadget in F2. In general, Lando Norris feels better in its McLarn F1 car than in last year's F2 car. From the very beginning of the season, he had a good feeling at McLaren. Last but not least, this is also reflected in the 19-year-old's good results in the qualifiers.
He has already beaten his much more experienced team-mate Carlos Sainz seven times this season, most recently four times in a row. “In the beginning, it was very difficult to drive a good circle. But I still feel better in the car than last year, ”said Norris.
It is not easier in F1 than in F2, if we look at the fast qualifying round. But Norris simply has a better feel for the race car and knows well when it can be at the limit. In addition, he works well with the team, which can be seen below the line in his good qualification balance.
“I didn’t do the best job in qualifying last year,” the self-critical young Briton said. In 2018, he won second overall place, behind George Russell, but only once stood in pole position, while his compatriot and F2 champion won the top five starting places. Because of this, he worked specifically in this field and apparently the work paid off for him.
