Mercedes silver arrows by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will have a different look this weekend in Hockenheim, namely white. For in Hockenheim, the 125th anniversary of motorsport will be celebrated.
July 22 is a special day for racing. For on July 22, 1894, something took place that historians describe as the first car race. It was a race from Paris to Rouen. 125 years later, however, fans will be watching the race in Hockenheim and Mercedes has come up with something special on this occasion.
Team boss Toto Wolff said: “This year’s race for the German GP coincides with a special date. We are also the nominal sponsor of the German Grand Prix, and the race itself is the 200th start for Mercedes in F1. At the same time, we are celebrating a respectable jubilee in Hockenheim, namely 125 years of motorsport. ”
“In 1894, the first car race in the world was held, between Paris and Rouen. And the heart of the winning race car was the engine designed by Gottlieb Daimler. This was the beginning of an exceptional motorsport tradition that still exists today and we are immensely proud to be able to write the next chapter of this history. For this reason, we will appear in a special external image, which should express respect for our history. ”
Mercedes, meanwhile, has already shown the first photos on social media of what it should look like for the exterior. We can see a huge Mercedes sign on the nose of the car, which is white.
