Mercedes and Red Bull with new chassis

Mercedes is well on its way to successfully defending the title. As a result, they have plenty of time to already train for 2020 with the new chassis. Also Red Bull do not sit cross-legged. Does that mean Ferrari will soon become just the third power in F1?

In this year’s championship, the duo of Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are far ahead of everyone. In the team championship, Mercedes' advantage over Ferrari is already 164 points. This allows the serial world champions to test new fresh concepts to make the current car even better and stronger, and in addition, they can already train for the 2020 championship.

The online portal motorsport.com reports that Mercedes has already passed the so-called Crash-Test of the new chassis in Cranfield. The team is still, understandably, silent about the new chassis. It is not yet clear when it will be used for the first time, some know to say that already this weekend in Hockenheim, and most likely in the next race at the Hungaroring, which is scheduled only a week later.

The current champions thus pursue the following goals: an even more extremely lighter chassis, experiments in terms of the 2020 season (with stable rules), there is talk of a longer wheelbase and optimized weight distribution.

For the Ferrari team, however, this is not the only cause for concern, either Red Bull undertook the so-called Crash-Test of the new chassis. Adrian Newey wants to capture the experience from the first half of the season. With an even more competitive chassis, less tire wear thanks to modified suspension and further improvement of the Honda engine (in Spa or Monza), they are expected to overtake Ferrari in the championship and put fair pressure on the current Mercedes champions.
