In the first free practice, he drove the fastest lap time of 1: 14.013 minutes and was 0,25 seconds faster than teammate Charles Leclerc. However, it should be noted that Mercedes did not show everything. Right behind both Ferraris were Lewis Hamilton, Max Vesrtappen and Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton was 0,3 seconds behind Vettl, a similar gap was recorded by Verstappen, and the Finn in the silver arrow was 0,6 seconds behind. But while Vettel, Leclerc and Verstappen put their time on a soft tire compound, both Mercedes achieved their time on a medium compound. Sixth was Pierre Gasly in second Red Bullu. Carlos Sainz, Romain Grosjean, Lance Stroll and Daniel Ricciardo complete the top ten.
