Before the race: Statistics of the Hungarian race

Before the F1 summer break, racers will have to drive another race weekend. At the Hungaroring just off Budapest, the twelfth race of this season is scheduled. This is the 34th race in a row on the 4,381 km long (or short, as you take) track. Only Monza (39 races in a row) and Monaco (65 races in a row) can boast a longer period of consecutive events. On the list of the most frequently performed F1 races, however, the Hungaroring is in ninth place. He is preceded by Monza (68 races), Monaco (66 races), Silverstone (53 races), Spa-Francorchamps (51 races), Nürburgring and Montreal (40 races each), Hockenheim (37 races) and Interlagos (36 races).

The most successful racer at the Hungaroring is five-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The 34-year-old Mercedes racer has won this race six times already, namely 2007, 2009, 2012 (these three with McLarn), 2013, 2016 and 2018 (with Mercedes). The Briton also started the race six times from first place. If Hamilton manages to repeat last year’s success this year, he will catch up with track record holder Michael Schumacher, who has won seven times here. The German also holds the lap record, taking it in 2004 with Ferrari in 1: 19,071 minutes.

McLaren is at the top of the teams. The traditional Woking team has won eleven victories on this track. The former was taken care of by the legendary Ayrton Senna in 1988, and the last McLarn victory was won by Hamilton in 2012. Both races started from first place.

Kimi Raikkonen, who is racing for the Alfa Romeo team this year, collected the most podium finishes. The Finn has already stood on the winners' stage here nine times, once as a winner in 2005. He was second six times (2003, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2017) and third twice (2008 and 2018).
