Williams: We are on the right track when it comes to racing car design

However, after the last two races at Williams, some positive trend in the whole story is still noticed by the first lady of the team, Claire Williams he believes they are on the right track. The 2019 season started all too well for Williams, with a delay in the presentation of the car and missed tests, which was also reflected in the complete uncompetitiveness of the car in the races themselves.

Claire Williams believes there are better times ahead for the team.

The grand prizes of Germany and Hungary, however, brought the team some joy, first a point Roberta Kubica v Hockenheim (after the disqualification of both Alfa Romeo race cars), and then another very decent time George Russell on qualifications for Hungarian GP. According to Williams, the improvements are not a coincidence, but the result of several months of hard work, first on the engine and especially in the field of vacuum exploitation, which has long been a major problem for Williams.

"We've made a number of improvements in recent months that may not be obvious at first glance, but they're making the car more stable on the track now, and the racers have more confidence in it," he said. he says Claire Williams, and adds: "We are certainly aware of the fact that we still have a lot of work to do in the field of aerodynamic improvements, where we were far behind the competition due to the problems we had in the winter."

Williams acknowledges that a significant breakthrough in improving car aerodynamics has been achieved with the new design of vertical stabilizers (so-called bargeboards) along the sides of the race car presented in Silverston, but they are especially important because the outlined path in the field of aerodynamics turned out to be the right one.

The aerodynamic package showed the real results at the Hungarian GP, where it is George Russell missed the breakthrough in Q2 by just a few thousandths and placed ahead of both Renault in Racing Point. Williams is convinced that they now have a good basis that the next season, for which no major changes in terms of rules are expected at the moment, will be significantly more successful than this year.
