Mick Schumacher and Formula 1: Time must tell

It’s only a matter of time before Mick Schumacher shows up at the start of a Formula 1 race. But his management is acting smart and doesn’t want to exaggerate anything, they have decided to go step by step and not go wild. This worked great in Formula 3, as after the 2017 school year with average results, Mick turned on the turbo in the middle of last year and hurried unstoppably to the championship title.

Winning the Hungaroring gave me an extra boost

Two seasons are planned for him in Formula 2. At that time, we are in the middle of the school year and Mick himself admits that in the first part of the season, things did not go the way he wanted. Former Formula 1 racer Johnny Herbert says: “Just like in Formula 1, tire management is an important topic. At the start of the season, for example, Mick was in a good position at the race in Bahrain, but he put too much strain on his tires and lost places towards the end of the race, finishing seventh. In Hungary, he acted much smarter and was rewarded with a victory in the sprint race. It just tells me how hard Mick learns. ”

After four points in the last five Formula 2 races, including a victory at the Hungaroring, the young Schumacher advanced to eleventh place. Of course, there is no talk of a fight for the title, but he is on the right track with his plan. In 2020, he wants to constantly fight for the podium and get involved in the race for the title. In 2021, he could be promoted to Formula 1, and his closest path is to the Alfa Romeo Racing team.

Mick doesn’t want to put himself under pressure, he stressed at the Hungaroring as well. “Of course it’s a nice thing that I managed my first win in Formula 2. But I still have a lot to work on. When I will be ready for Formula 1, time must tell. It is important for me personally to learn so much that I will feel good entering Formula 1, ”Mick told the media after the race in Hungary.

In 2021, however, this could already be an everyday picture in Formula 1 - Mick in the Alfa Romeo team

“I went into the Formula 2 season very openly, with the goal of learning a lot, but without setting a specific goal in terms of ranking. As for the car and the tires, it’s completely different than in Formula 3, so before the season I used to get used to it. However, I believe we are not doing a bad job in the meantime. Now we go to the Spa, on the trail that suits me. I hope we can take a flight from Hungary to Belgium. ”
