Even before the start of the qualifiers, they announced from the garage of the Reds that they had succeeded repaired a Leclerc race car, or rather, after the technical difficulties that Monaco had in the 3rd free practice, they replaced his powertrain and Leclerc was able to start qualifying normally. Because Ferrari used an already used engine, Charles Leclerc is not facing punishment loss of cities. Monaco is otherwise far away the most successful “qualifier” of the season, as he won pole position as many as seven times. For comparison - both Mercedes racers each have four first starting positions.

There were no major upheavals in the first minutes of Q1, the most dramatic was the slip Daniil Kvjat in bend no. 9, who raised some dust along the track and was far behind his teammate at the end of the first part of the qualifiers, finishing in fourth place. He took care of the biggest surprise of the first part Lando Norris in McLarn, which was even the fastest.

After Q1, the now "established apostates" said goodbye, Robert Kubica in George Russell in both Williams, Kimi Räikönen in Antonio Giovinazzi in both Alphah, Sergio Perez v Racing Point-AMG however, he did not strain excessively, as he will start from the beginning due to the penalty.

Q2: Fastest Leclerc, dropped Hulk, Kvyat, both Haas and Stroll

At the beginning of the second part, he set the fastest time Alex Albon, who led for a long time, also at the expense of the fact that the leaders in the championship first tried with mid-range tires, towards the end he was overtaken by both Ferraris, and an interesting fight of course flared up to stay in the top ten.

In the end, they pulled short Nico Hülkenberg, Daniil Kvyat, who made a mistake in the last turn, which was most likely costing the Q3 rankings, both said goodbye Haas racer (Kevin Magnussen in Romain Grosjean), and among the apostates he also found himself in 14th place Lance stroll.

Q3: Bottas ’first attempt was enough for pole position

At the start of Q3, the fast lap took off first Hamilton, which was successively overtaken Bottas, which also set a track record, Vettel, Leclerc in Verstappen, but all together remained in less than three-tenths. Aelx Albon was not as fast in the first as in Q2, they were behind him Sainz, Norris in gasly, while Ricciardo he didn't even try.

In the second, most racers sfižil attempt to improve the fastest lap, so that the order remained as it was after the first attempt. Vettel was not fast enough, Leclerc made a mistake before the end of the lap, Verstappen drove worse in the first sector but overtook Monaco, and Hamilton, after seeing that he would not be able to overtake his rivals, interrupted the fast lap.

The Pirelli Pole Position Award was presented to Valtteri Bottas by the legendary Mario Andretti.
