New testing rules: The last test, which was always performed after the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, was shortened by one day and limited to young racers. As a result, two race cars can now be used. Testing of the new 18-inch tires has been deleted as new tire dimensions will not be introduced until the 2022 season.

Shutdown extension: An adapted summer break, which now lasts 21 days, is currently underway. In the rules, however, there is now also the possibility that this break may be extended if teams face shortcomings due to ongoing restrictions in their home countries.

A novelty in the rules is that now there is a summer break or Shutdown lasting 21 days also for engine manufacturers, which have been exempted so far.

Shutdown for engine manufacturers: What is completely new is that there is now a 21-day break also for the motor departments, which have now been treated separately and have not fallen into the mandatory break. From now on, the same applies to them as for chassis: The manufacturer must notify the FIA of the start of the closure, and then must not touch the engine and their development for 21 days.

Reduction of engine components: There is also a new rule that automatically reduces the limit of powertrain components with a shortened race calendar.
