SEBASTIAN VETTEL: We came close to direct competitors

Sebastian Vettel was 1,3 seconds behind Lewis Hamilton in yesterday's qualifiers, which was still enough for fifth place - ahead of teammate Leclerc.

Sebastian Vettel after yesterday’s qualifiers despite a significant backlog 1,327 seconds for the best Lewis Hamilton he has not lost his sense of humor.

In front of the cameras of colleagues from Sky Sports F1 it is a question of what he can Ferrari hoping for tomorrow’s race, he replied with a laugh: “You can always hope, but there is the question of whether hopes are also realistic. Seriously, we’re here to race and win. But at the moment, we don’t have the speed to do it on our own. We’ll see what happens at the race. Tires will be important, we are on a different strategy than the guys in front of us. We had to use a soft rubber compound to qualify for Q3."

Sebastian Vettel was not disappointed after yesterday's qualifiers, despite falling far behind Mercedes, and believes that they have come close to direct competitors here in Hungary.

In terms of racing, colleagues from ORF said: “Colleagues in front of us will start the race on the middle mix, this could help us orient ourselves forward and not backward. It will all depend on how well we start and the first part of the race will show where we are. Soft tires are likely to wear out sooner, maybe that’s not our advantage. However, I believe, as past years have shown, that the soft blend works great on Sunday. For the first time this year, we succeeded with both race cars in Q3. In Austria, we lost a lot on the plains. There are a lot of twists here to make up for lost time. The balance of the car is also better, so we are closer to our direct competitors such as Racing Point, Red Bull and also McLaren."
