When Formula 1 will visit this weekend Sochibecause Mercedes again a big favorite. Not only because the team dominates this year with seven of the nine possible wins, but also because it is in Sochi so far undefeated.
From the first performance Russian GP in 2014 the team won all six races. "Sochi has been a good place for our team in the past and we have good results there," said the team boss Toto Wolff.
"The track has a relatively unusual course and is marked by one key point: the long journey from the start-finish line to the first braking zone," explains the team boss Mercedes. "As a result, the driver in pole position is not necessarily in the best position to start the race, as cars behind him can benefit from the lee."
This was shown last year when Sebastian Vettel on the way to the second bend overtook Charles Leclerc. “Remember the 2017 season when Valtteri overtook first-placed Vettl from third position,” he remembers Wolff.
Wolff also fears that Mercedes could be tarnished by the upcoming racing weekend: "Russia's Grand Prix is also a race in which Netflix will accompany our team for the third season of Drive to Survive."
“Last year it was like this in Hockenheim, where we celebrated the 125th anniversary of motorsport at the home race - in the end, it was the worst race of the season for us. That was the basis for a very fun episode of Netflix, but we will do our best to provide not only great content this time, but also a great race, ” he says Wolff.
