TURKISH GP, qualifications: Statements of the FIRST THREE racers

Behind us are the exciting qualifications of the Turkish GP with a surprising final outcome. Otherwise, one could jokingly say that Mercedes also got Istanbul, but a beauty flaw because it was in pink.

Rain made sure we had great, sensational ones qualifications, where the silver arrows in black failed to swing among the top three - despite the rocket they own. Lewis Hamilton, for many alpha and omega for all tracks and conditions, was helpless today.

Therefore, to the delight of many, to whom the change came in handy, they occupied the top three racers, of which at least two would not be expected in the first three starting places. If Max Verstappen already subscribed to these sites, however Sergio Perez and especially his teammate on the Racing Point team Lance stroll definitely big surprises.

Lance Stroll - Racing Point: pole position

"That was really crazy. It’s been some tough weeks for me. From Monza, where I finished third, I didn’t score any more points. Then there was the crown, accidents and unusual cases, it was just hard. And now pole position. I can say that I am shocked. I really don’t even know what to say. I would never in my life after the third workout think that I could achieve such a result. I still don’t realize what happened. It was a really crazy day, with these tough conditions. But it all depended on you doing the right thing at the right time and that it all came together for you. This is exactly the result I needed after tough weeks. It’s also a big moment of my career. He always dreamed of standing in a pole position. Now she has succeeded. What will be in the race? Primarily this will depend on the conditions. Basically, though, I want to sleep through a quiet night and then do my best. Also in the race, the key to success will be how best to get the tires to optimum performance."

Max Verstappen - Red Bull Racing: second place

"I'm furious like a lynx. For the first time this season after qualifying, I’m not happy with our performance. Already in Q1, I felt that the intermediates of the tires on our car do not bring an advantage, as it should theoretically be the case. The track was the best in the last minutes, but at that moment I was not on the track with the right tires. Could I beat Lance with heavy rain tires? I believe he could take a lap time like he did, or at least close. I am really very disappointed. If you are the fastest racer in all training sessions and in the end you have to settle for a second starting place, then this is very frustrating. Because with rain tires, the race car was a dream, but i intermediates on the front axle had no grip. We need to find out how this could have happened. I don’t want to think about the race yet, I’m too disappointed at the moment. It also stinks to me that I will have to start the race as a second from an unfavorable side, which would make me prefer to be third."

Sergio Perez - Racing Point: third place

"I really thought it would be enough for pole position this time, but the track was faster from lap to lap, Max managed to get past me and then Lance. Of course it worms me when you feel that the pole is at your fingertips and then you find yourself in third place. But for the team, it’s a great result, a huge opportunity to score a lot of points against our third-place rivals McLaren and Renault. The car was very good in these difficult conditions, in the end the timing did not suit. I had Giovinazzi in front of me, who didn’t want to back down. I tried to overtake him, causing me to spin in the sixth turn. We did everything right, even by switching to intermediate tires, which brought tremendous progress on our race car."
