ARTURO MERZARIO: Mistakes MERCEDES made with HAMILTON

Arturo Merzario became world famous after helping to pull Niki Laudo out of a burning car in 1976 at the Nürburgring. The 77-year-old Italian now says what mistakes Mercedes made with Lewis Hamilton.

Arthur Mercario drove in the 70s 57 Formula 1 races. As a factory racer Ferrari he managed to win fourth place three times, but his the most famous performance it was not these good races, but his a heroic act on the race Nürburgringa in 1976when he is with other racers after a serious accident from burning race car pulled out Nikija Lauda and thus saved his life.

Merzario he still raced at an age when other Italians had long since retired. Today 77-year-old still closely monitors current developments in Formulas 1 and he also struggles with the thought of how to do that Lewis Hamilton he has still not signed a new contract with Mercedes. “I’m sure the underlying problem began with George Russell’s performance at the Sakhir GP race, where the young Briton competed because of positively infected Lewis Hamilton. It was a decision made by team boss Toto Wolff,”Is Merzario said for the portal sportal.it. "Perhaps Lewis believed that his replacement would have a harder job and that he would not race at such a high level as Russell showed in the Sakhir GP race."

Arturo Merzario points out Mercedes ’mistakes in negotiating with Lewis Hamilton.

Therefore Merzario considers it a show Russella proved in this race that another racer can also win victories for Mercedes. And then there’s the question of duration the new Hamilton Treaty. For this year, only Hamilton’s teammate has a valid contract Valtteri Bottas, but what about the flight 2022 onwards? Will it then Mercedes placed a promising one alongside Hamilton Russella? Merzario is not as sure as he said: “He is not far removed from the truth that Hamilton does not want to have such a teammate. For him, Valtteri Bottas is a much better choice. Everyone knows the old rule in racing - the first competitor is a teammate in the same car. It must be perfectly clear to Hamilton that things are changing. Sooner or later you get to the point where the young racers overtake you. So in every business, why should it be any different in Formula 1?"
