Jordan has spent a tremendous amount of time around racers in his career as he has been a team boss on various teams in various racing series. One of these was formula 3, when in the late XNUMXs, just before entering the world Formula 1 started an adventure with his own team Eddie Jordan Racing.

He is on his team at the time lack of money, which made him have to take over some engineering responsibilities, and in this role he also learned a lot about the mindset of racers. “When we were stuck and didn't have enough money to have a sufficient number of engineers, I used to do the job of an engineer,”He said in a podcast F1Nation z Damon Hill. "I always dived into the cockpit of a racer, dedicating myself to a guy in the middle of Formula 3 qualifiers and I remember the case of Jean Alesi during the French GP when I told him ‘look, I just changed certain settings for you’. Of course I didn't do anything, I never changed anything, and he was half a second faster, so I wondered 'What's wrong with these guys?' Do they have problems in their head. All they need is a pat on the head."

Damon Hill also talked to Jordan about the psychological state of the racers and how they should be patted on the head as they are very fragile people in the end.

Jordan continues: “And you're the same Damon, you just have to massage your head because you're… all the racers are full of shit and we know that..it's all in your head. What happens in an accident when they lose their front wings? They get faster. This is a fact of life. People adapt to a given set of circumstances, but when that happens, they are all full of different data. Oh my God, racers - I can't deal with them.“Given everything pressure, brought about by work and the required focus, are generally assumed to be racers mentally very solid.

But Jordan he thinks they are in fact very fragile people and that they need the best for this purpose psychological tricks. "Racers are generally fragile characters, just like most athletes. And they need us to tell them something about how they can find extra trust. But it works. Anyone who believes that psychology plays no significant role in any sport is stupid. As it is and so it is of course in Formula 1," Ends Jordan.
