Web portal analysis AutoScout24 in the context of the second-hand car price index, it showed that in November 2021, buyers of second-hand cars paid on average for the same second-hand cars. 18 percent more than in November 2020. On average, this means additional 3.726 euros, which is of course an important amount for most consumers.
"In terms of price dynamics in the used car market, 2021 is a truly remarkable year," said in a statement the head of sales for the German market at AutoScout24, Stefan Schneck. "In 2020, prices remained almost at the level of the previous year, but now they have risen 10 percent from a standstill - this has never been the case before."
Schneck he says the rise in prices was influenced by a number of factors. One of them is alone coronavirus pandemic, as people began to avoid public transportation and started buying cars. In addition, disruptions to production in car factories during the pandemic led to it the number of used cars decreased, sent to the market by leasing companies. Lack semiconductors then the demand for used cars increased, as many consumers are not willing to wait for a new vehicle and therefore prefer to buy used vehicles.
Interestingly, prices have risen both at electric as well as at petrol in diesel models, the only drop was recorded by liquefied natural gas vehicles, which are a fifth cheaper. If we look at the relationships after segments, the price increased the most for lower middle class cars (by 14 percent), as well as urban toddlers (+ 12 percent) and the compact vehicle segment (+ 11 percent). Also interesting is the fact that the price of SUVs rose the least (+8 percent).
