Twenty years after the end of production, the brand Moskvich, which is otherwise owned by the concern KAMAZ, known primarily for its commercial vehicles, is returning to the living. The former Renault factory, which the French sold this year to the Russian government and the city of Moscow, will henceforth produce Moskvich 3, which, with the exception of signs and some other small things, is actually identical to the Chinese SUV JAC S4.
They have bold plans with the newcomer at Moskvič, as they plan to produce around 100 vehicles annually. "They claim that we just pasted the logo on already produced cars. But it's not like that. We assemble cars behind the assembly line. We get the components from China,” he explained Maksim Klyushkin, head of the Moskvich project.
There is a lack of new cars on the Russian market due to sanctions. According to the data of the Association of European Companies in Russia, in the first ten months of this year new car sales in this country fell for 60 percent compared to the same period last year.
