LG will introduce sliding and folding displays for cars at CES

The company LG Display is joining "screening" of cars, as it announced plans to introduce the next generation of displays at CES.

The company isn't revealing the details yet, but it says that's what we can expect “sliding and folding OLED screens mounted on the rear seats that can be hidden or extended for use as needed”. The company also released some images showing rear seat entertainment system with screens that seem to retract into the ceiling when not in use.

It also has a model of the interior a huge freestanding screen, which combines a digital instrument panel and an infotainment system. We can also see the screen below and what appears to be display on the passenger console in the back seats.

LG has been tight-lipped on details, but will present advanced thin OLED, who “uses glass substrates to offer the key benefits of automotive OLED at a more competitive price”. Low-temperature technology will also be presented polycrystalline silicon, which allows for larger, higher resolution LCD screens.

LG won't be the only company with sliding screens, but the big trend is the screen for the front passenger. Many new and upcoming models offer them, among others Audi Q6 e-tron, Porsche Cayenne in Ram 1500 Rev.

Given that, it's not surprising that it will LG at the fair CES introduced "switch privacy mode". It is designed to prevent driver distraction, as the viewing angle of the front passenger screen "automatically adjusts" so that the driver cannot watch movies or games on the screen.
