The Hyundai Inster is an electric toddler with a big personality

A new crossover was created in the city (and for the city). It's called Hyundai Inster and the most observant are likely to have a sense of déjà vu. Where have we seen him before? In Korea, by name Casper and reduced measures. Inster is now expanding its borders and is looking for Europe as a target market, where it will land exclusively on electric drive.

It measures in length 3,82 meters and has a distinctly personal design and – despite its size – a spacious and technological interior. It will come to Slovenia in the summer, but the prices have not yet been determined. Let's start with the dimensions: as already mentioned, the Hyundai Inster is 3,82 meters long, 1,61 meters wide, 1,57 meters high and has wheelbase 2,58 meters, which is almost as much as the higher segment model. This is all in favor of spaciousness, but we'll get to that later.

Shapes and proportions are the same as the model Casper, but they also differ from it. Mainly these are the dotted upper headlights, which are taken from the Ioniq series and other models, but below them remain the round light clusters that give the small Korean crossover so much personality. If we look at it from the side, we notice similar proportions as in Suzuki Ignis, but of course it's not about copy/paste. Just like a small Japanese car, the Inster also has an overall design that follows the function of optimizing the interior space between the passenger cabin and the trunk. He crosses the back side LED light strip with a kaleidoscopic effect.

The organization of space and equipment is worthy of attention, where you can even count on elements that can be attached to the backrests of the front seats, so that you have small tables available for placing tablets or other things. Everything plastics are hard, to keep the price low and the overall quality still good. On the other hand, looking at the equipment, the overall rating rises: digital instruments on a 10,25-inch monitor and the same diagonal for the screen of the infotainment system, which is compatible with Android Auto in Apple CarPlay, but via cable.

On the lower part of the dashboard, there are various physical buttons for controlling the air conditioning and recall infotainment system main menus and buttons for heating the seats and activating the parking camera. Definitely rich equipment, which also includes a wireless smartphone charger and various charging sockets, 12 V and USB type C.

The Hyundai Inster is based on an extended and modified model platform Casper, but it lacks the 1,0-liter turbo petrol engine of its Korean-market sibling. Two powertrains are available: 97 hp, 147 Nm of torque and 42 kWh battery for the basic version, 115 hp, 147 Nm and 49 kWh for the more powerful one, where it is expected to be declared range of about 350 km.

It has a built-in charger power 11 kW, and with direct current, the maximum acceptable power is 85 kW, which achieves from 30 to 10% of battery capacity in about 80 minutes. Hyundai Inster it also includes the V2L (vehicle to load) protocol: with a special adapter, the batteries can be used to charge external devices.

Nature does not prevent a small crossbreed the presence of many technologies to help the driver, such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking (also at the rear), lane keeping, blind spot prevention, external cameras and sensors and much more.

We still do not know the detailed price list of the model Hyundai Inster, but we know that the company's goal is to stay below the 25.000-euro limit for the basic version – the one with 42 kWh batteries.
