The "third generation" VW Amarok is actually a facelift of the first generation

The 15-year-old pickup truck has been given a facelift that incorporates VW's latest design language.

Volkswagen Argentina has published the first official photo of the model Amarok for the South American market, which is an updated version of the original pick-up from 2009. Production of the truck has already started at the industrial center Pacheco in Argentina.

The company describes the new model as VW Amarok of the third generation, but in fact it is a more extensive facelift of the first generation. The second-generation VW Amarok is already available in other markets, including Europe and Australia, as it shares a base with the model Ford Ranger.

The new image gives us a better look at the design South American versions of the Amarok, after a photo from the production hall was leaked to the public. The profile of the truck is largely preserved, but the front part has been significantly redesigned and has adopted fresh design cues from the latest models of the Volkswagen brand.

They are the focus of the new front end modern headlights, which are integrated into the new radiator grille together with the LED strip across the entire width. The bumper is more sculpted than before, with intakes reminiscent of a smaller truck VW Saveiro. We can also see the new design of the light alloy wheels, while the changes at the rear are said to be minor, probably limited to the tail light graphics.

On the left is the first generation, on the right is the "third generation" of the VW Amarok model.

VW hasn't revealed any technical details, but it will most likely retain the old Amarok's scale-frame base. A small emblem on the radiator grille suggests that the 3,0-liter will carry over V6 turbodiesel engine and a smaller 2,0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel.

Extensive visual updates may be combined with an updated chassis setup and some modern technologies in the cabin. It's likely that VW will continue to offer both single- and double-cab versions of the pickup truck.

We expect to be more information about the new VW Amarok for Latin America find out in the coming weeks or months, at the official premiere of the model. Volkswagen is in the factory Pacheco since the premiere produced more than 740.000 units Amaroka, with 65 percent of production destined for export markets outside of Argentina.
