VW Tayron L: First image of 2025 Tiguan Allspace successor

It will be produced in China and Germany as a successor to the seven-seater SUV.

Since last year, there have been rumors that Volkswagen will change its strategy for the Tiguan Allspace, a seven-seat version of the SUV. Instead of the new generation, the brand is said to use the Tayron L, a Chinese model produced in the Asian country under the FAW-VW joint venture, as a replacement for the model available in Europe and other markets.

Despite prior information and even predictions in the past, little was known about the final product. Until now, we have been waiting for the launch of the new Tayron L in China to find out what will replace the Tiguan Allspace as a 2025-seat mid-size SUV in Volkswagen's catalog from 7. The new VW Tayron 2025 isn't on the market yet, but China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has hit the nail on the head again and released homologation images of the new generation SUV. The result is in line with what was already expected for the model.

The Tyron L is expected to replace the Tiguan Allspace in Europe in 2025

At the front, the new Tayron L partly follows the design language of the new Tiguan, and the similarities (as far as they can be recognized) are also evident at the rear. This is probably intentional to emphasize the family resemblance of the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace models than before. Judging by the images, the SUV is likely to offer at least a standard version and some kind of R-Line configuration with a contrasting roof and a sportier look. You can see these in our cover image. Another important piece of information revealed by the Chinese authorities is the dimensions of the new Volkswagen Tayron L. The model will be 4.684 mm long, 1.854 mm wide and 1.685 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2.791 mm (60 mm longer than the current generation). In terms of width, height and wheelbase, the dimensions correspond to the new Škoda Kodiaq, which is slightly longer at 4,76 meters. 18-inch and 19-inch wheels will be available for the Tayron L.

The new generation Volkswagen Tayron L has been approved with two engine variants, at least for the Chinese market. The first is a 1,5 turbo gasoline engine with 156 hp. More expensive versions of the 7-seater mid-range SUV are expected to come with a bigger engine that is also approved in China: a 2,0 turbo petrol engine with 220 hp. In Europe, we expect a 1.5 TSI with 150 hp, a 2.0 TSI with 204 hp, two plug-in hybrids with a system power of up to 272 hp and, above all, two diesels with 150 and 193 hp respectively.

The new VW Tayron L has largely identical dimensions to the new Skoda Kodiaq

Images of the VW Tiguan L Pro in China were leaked to the public as early as the end of April 2024. This 4,73-meter-long SUV will be exclusively produced there by SAIC-Volkswagen. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, is talking about the Tayron model. At the beginning of June 2024, it was literally stated in relation to the Wolfsburg plant: "Tayron will be added at the end of the year." By the way, the Seat Tarraco, which is based on the current Tiguan Allspace model, will almost certainly be discontinued in 2025 without a direct successor.
