McLaren Automotive surprises with a special announcement. Today, the next chapter in the remarkable history of its legendary '1' series of vehicles is confirmed. Dubbed the McLaren W1, the new supercar will be unveiled on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 13.00:14.00 p.m. CET (XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. CET).
McLaren explains the new name as follows: "The name W1 represents McLaren's world championship mentality, and the date of the public launch marks the 50th anniversary of McLaren's first victory in the Constructors' World Championship in Formula 1 and Emerson Fittipaldi's victory with McLaren in the World Drivers' Championship in 1974." there was also a short video. The McLaren W1 is the successor to the legendary McLaren F1 and P1 models, so it can be considered a hypercar. Nothing has been revealed about the technology yet. The P1 model, built between 2013 and 2015, produced a total of 3,8 hp with a combination of a 8-liter V916 turbo engine and an electric motor.
Currently, the most extreme McLaren is the Solus GT, a mid-engine single-seater with no road or FIA homologation. The 5,2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine revs to 10.000 rpm and produces approximately 840 hp (632 kW) and 650 Nm of torque. Compared to competitors such as Lamborghini or Ferrari, a plug-in hybrid form seems possible in the case of the W1. In other words, a combination of a powerful biturbo internal combustion engine with one or more electric motors. McLaren will probably aim for the magic 1.000 hp mark. Let us be surprised.
"The McLaren W1 is defined by true supercar principles and is the ultimate expression of the McLaren supercar. Shaped by our rich racing history and world champion mentality, the W1 pushes the boundaries of performance and is worthy of the '1' name. Like its predecessors, the F1 and the McLaren P1, the W1 defines the rules of a true supercar," says Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive.
