Jeep today unveiled the next-generation Jeep Compass with a design sketch of the new all-wheel drive compact SUV. The successor to the brand's best-selling model will be produced in Europe at the factory in Melfi (Italy) from 2025, and in North America and other regions of the world, it will begin production in 2026.
Based on the highly flexible mid-size STLA platform, the new Jeep Compass will be available with a variety of powertrains – from all-electric, hybrid to internal combustion engine – and, according to the manufacturer, will offer buyers “affordable Jeep performance, best-in-class performance and state-of-the-art technology regardless of the powertrain selected'.
Jeep Compass 2024 - Exterior
What this means concretely can be seen in the technically related Peugeot 3008. Like the new Opel Grandland, it also uses medium STLA technology. An automatic transmission will always be available, and the base engine is a 48bhp 136V petrol engine. A plug-in hybrid with a system output of 195 hp and a fully electric version with 157 kW (213 hp) are also available.
The Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass were and are still being built in Melfi. However, these models will be phased out in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Instead, the Stellantis plant will receive five new models based on the STLA Medium platform.
Jeep Compass 2024 - Interior
Stellantis has announced the production of four new BEV models in Melfi in June 2021. In addition to the successor to the Opel Insignia model and the DS crossover, it is also expected to be the successor to the DS 7 Crossback model, which will hit the market in late 2025, and the equivalent of the Lancia model, which will probably be called the Gamma. The current Jeep Compass hit the market in 2016. It is currently available as a 1,5 GSE 48V e-Hybrid with 130 hp and a 4xe with up to 240 hp. There has been no diesel engine in the lineup since 2022, and that won't change with the successor.
