The redesign for the Opel Mokka brings more technology and fewer buttons

Four years after its premiere in the competitive segment of subcompact SUVs, Opel presented the redesigned Mokka. The model received a slight visual update and some minor improvements in the cabin, including a new infotainment system. The Mokka continues to be available with an internal combustion engine, a mild hybrid drivetrain and a fully electric drivetrain.

To the untrained eye, it's hard to tell the visual differences compared to the outgoing Mokka, which was the first model to introduce Opel's latest design language before it spread across the entire lineup. A closer look reveals a redesigned front bumper, which is said to improve aerodynamics, and the omission of fog lights in the lower part of the bumper.

Opel designers have also updated the graphics on the headlights and taillights with three vertically arranged blocks, similar to the Frontera and Grandland models. A new logo is incorporated into the covered radiator grille, known as the Opel Vizor. In addition, all chrome inserts have disappeared, the focus is again on black exterior elements.

Inside, a digital cockpit consisting of two 10-inch screens is now standard equipment that drives fresh infotainment content. The latter features smartphone-like widgets, improved voice recognition, ChatGPT integration into the available navigation, and an optional 180-degree reversing camera.

The steering wheel and matte silver center console with USB-C plug, fewer buttons and switches from Grandland have also been redesigned.

The adopted range of powertrains starts with a non-electrified 1,2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 100 kW (136 hp) and sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The mild hybrid version combines the same engine with a 21 kW (28 hp) electric motor housed in a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The most powerful is the EV version, which has an electric motor with 115 kW (156 hp), which draws energy from a 54 kWh battery.

The facelifted Opel Mokka is available for order in Germany. Prices start at €26.740 for the thermal engine model, €29.740 for the mild hybrid and €36.740 for the EV. This means that the entry-level version is EUR 1.040 more expensive than the new Frontera, even though it is smaller than the latter.
