The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is coming

Hyundai has shown the first teasers of the new Ioniq 9. The all-electric SUV with three rows of seats is the third model in the Ioniq series after the Ioniq 5 and 6 models, followed by two free seats (Ioniq 7 and 8); The Ioniq 9 is likely to be the top model, similar to the Kia EV9.

As a study, the car was still called the Seven Concept. Therefore, it was assumed that the production version would be called the Ioniq 7. However, Hyundai decided to go with a larger number, probably also to leave room for two smaller models. Like the Ioniq 5 and 6, the Ioniq 9 is based on the company's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It will likely also incorporate technology from the EV9 sister model.

The most interesting image shows that the pixel-like light signature will be taken from the concept vehicle. At least in the front, there will likely be a dashed line of light running from left to right. It is not clear from the preview image whether the vertical pixels are also illuminated. This is supported by the fact that the relevant part of the Ioniq 9 prototype was not camouflaged.

In the second picture, it can be seen that the door handles are placed right into the body, which is not surprising, since they are the same on the Ioniq 5 and 6 models. More interesting is the unusual decoration on the front. Since the wheel cutout is visible on the right side, it is probably the rear door on the driver's side. More or less vertical edging in this area is extremely unusual - we can't recall any model having it. However, this edging was already visible on the concept vehicle.

Hyundai also gives us a side view. The roof line is only slightly lowered towards the rear, and the widened wheel arches of the concept vehicle are preserved. Hyundai describes the design with the term Aerosthetic - apparently it should combine good aerodynamics and elegant aesthetics. The inspiration was said to be the "smooth outer walls and spacious, comfortable interior of the boat". According to the manufacturer, the Ioniq 9, with its slightly curved roofline and extended wheelbase, offers enough space even in the third row of seats. At the back are apparently vertical taillights. The rear of the vehicle may look similar to the concept vehicle.

Finally, the wheel rim is visible in the turbine design. Following the tried-and-tested tactic of cutting salami, Hyundai plans to release additional information about the Ioniq 30 on social media starting today, October 9. The world premiere of the electric SUV will then take place in November.
