Who is Xpeng, what cars does it make and how much do they cost

Chinese brands continue their unstoppable march into Europe. The latest example is Xpeng, which already operates in countries such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. In the following, we will look at the model range, but first we will analyze this company from the inside: its origin, production centers and own technologies. For example, did you know that it has more than 15.000 employees worldwide?

Xpeng: Company Profile

As you might have guessed, Xpeng is a very young company. It was founded in Guangzhou, China in 2014 by a group of entrepreneurs whose aim was and still is to 'change mobility through technology'. The company is headquartered in Guangzhou, China, but its global reach can be seen in its main offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Amsterdam. The company also has research and development centers in Silicon Valley and San Diego (USA) and a center of excellence in Munich. The cars are made at three production plants, also in Guangzhou, with two other plants in Zhaoqing and Wuhan. Interestingly, the company's shares are listed on the New York and Hong Kong stock exchanges.

Xpeng: Technologies

According to Xpeng, the company is "leading and pioneering the use of artificial intelligence in mobility". It has developed the first car operating system with integrated artificial intelligence (called AI Tianji System XOS 5.1.0), the first comprehensive model for intelligent driving with artificial intelligence (XNet, XPlanner and XBrain), the world's first 40-core chip for cars, robots and flying vehicles with artificial intelligence (Xpeng Turing) and the Hawkeye Vision AI detection sensor solution.

Xpeng has also developed its own advanced driver assistance systems (XPILOT), intelligent operating systems and software solutions based on artificial intelligence. Committed to the environment and social responsibility, the Chinese company has implemented the X-SEG (Smart, Efficient and Green) project for sustainable operations in its factories, from supply chain management and environmentally friendly production to product testing and material handling.

Xpeng: Cars

The all-electric range includes two SUVs, the G6 Coupé and the larger G9, as well as the attractive P7 sports sedan. Prices for the G6 start at €44.990 (including promotions but excluding MOVES III subsidies).

XPeng G6

The 4,75-meter-long sports SUV is classified in the D segment and, in addition to a spacious interior and a large trunk with 571 liters, it also offers special features such as a panoramic roof, 10,2-inch digital instruments, a 15-inch central display and an XOpera sound system with 18 speakers. There are three versions available. The standard RWD version (€43.600) with one engine and rear-wheel drive delivers 255 hp, has a range of 435 km in the WLTP cycle and supports a maximum charging capacity of 215 kW (from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes).

The RWD Long Range version (47.600 euros) has 280 hp. The range increases to 570 km, and the charging power to 280 kW (from 10 to 80% in just 20 minutes). The AWD Performance version (€51.600) has 470 hp and 600 Nm and an official range of 550 km. Like the Long Range version, it is compatible with a maximum charging capacity of 280 kW (from 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes). The entire G6 family of vehicles is equipped with a two-way vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging system.

XPeng G9

For those who want an even more family SUV, the 4,89 meter long G9 is available. It has a luxurious interior with three screens: 10-inch instruments and 15-inch screens in the middle and for passengers. There is 4G connectivity and a XOpera sound system with 22 speakers. Equipment variants are the same as the G6. The standard RWD version (59.600 euros) and the RWD Long Range version (63.600 euros) provide 313 hp and 430 Nm. The former offers a range of 460 km and a maximum charging capacity of 260 kW with the LFP battery. The second increases these values ​​to 570 km without charging and 300 kW.

The AWD Performance option (€71.600), which is equipped with air suspension as standard, has 551 hp and 717 Nm. Its range in the WLTP combined cycle is 520 kilometers, and its maximum charging capacity is 300 kW. No matter which G9 model you choose, all can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 19 minutes. The G9 Performance needs just 3,9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.

Xpeng p7

Now it's the turn of the P7 sedan, which, thanks to its carefully designed silhouette, has a drag coefficient of just 0,24. The car is 4,89 meters long, and the bright interior with a panoramic roof combines two large screens, a 10,2-inch instrument display and a 15-inch central display. There are three options: RWD Long Range (49.600 euros), AWD Performance (58.600 euros) and Wing Edition (69.600 euros). The basic version has 276 hp and a homologated range of 576 km.

The Performance and Wing Edition versions have 473 HP and 757 Nm of power and torque respectively. The entire series offers a maximum charging capacity of 175 kW, with which the batteries can be charged from 29 to 10 percent in 80 minutes. The fastest P7 is the Performance with 0-100 in 4,1 seconds, while the Wing Edition is equipped with the scissor doors that give it its name.

Xpeng research and development

Xpeng's factories use state-of-the-art end-to-end manufacturing processes with Gigacast technology, advanced robotics and the use of autonomous transport vehicles. The total production capacity reaches 600.000 cars per year.

In particular, the Guangzhou factory has not only waste treatment areas, but also test tracks and quality control centers, as well as halls for the production of batteries, electric motors and other components. Overall, the future looks bright for Xpeng, delivering 2019 vehicles between 2023 and 400.000 and growing steadily, with sales up 2023% in 170 and traffic up 154% compared to 2022 figures.
