Thanks to SEMA, the world has now seen a Mazda MX-5 with Lamborghini's V10 engine poking out of the hood, and the prominent headlights are now turbochargers. That's downright inspiring, isn't it?
This baby blue painted NA Series MX-5 has surfaced on social media and caught our attention for obvious reasons. The Lamborghini hoods, giant intercooler, and big rolls in place of the light shafts make this thing hard to miss.
We can assume that the additional six cylinders and two turbochargers, which are mostly located in front of the front wheels, have slightly reduced handling. This is not ideal for weight distribution. However, we suspect the output is considerably higher than the standard NA series MX-131's usual maximum 5bhp. A video shared by Internal Combustion on YouTube shows it being pulled from a side-by-side, and more can be seen on Hot_Parts_USA's Instagram. The company that put this thing together.
This does not mean that this vehicle is just a showpiece. The engine can be fully functional and the builder just polished it for the show. But it can also be that it almost tears the entire vehicle to pieces even at idle. Whatever the reason, our insight is purely visual for now. And that's fine, because we really like the idea of turbochargers as headlights.
