Lamborghini: The fourth model series was almost a sedan

Lamborghini has never had an extensive product range, with only three models in its current portfolio: Revuelto, Temerario and Urus. The Italian supercar manufacturer is preparing a fourth model, a new electric GT, which will be based on the Lanzador concept. However, at one point the company considered making its next model a sedan.

Lamborghini abandoned the idea of another SUV and decided on the Urus model. However, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said the company considered reviving a long-wheelbase version of the Estoque concept from 2008 before settling on the all-electric Lanzador as its fourth model.

"We studied the idea of a GT car and that's what we finally decided on," said Winkelmann in an interview with CAR Magazine. "But we also considered another SUV, which we rejected, and a sedan, which we considered back in 2008 with the Estoque model. It was a concept that we still had to develop - it had a long wheelbase and we came to the conclusion that a long wheelbase doesn't always look good."

Lamborghini is all about style, so the four-door, sedan-looking Estoque still looks fantastic from our perspective after 16 years. The Estoque debuted at the 2008 Paris Motor Show as the brand's first front-engined model since the LM002. Lamborghini has never revealed much information about the concept, but has hinted at a number of powertrain options, including a Gallardo-based V10 or a hybrid or diesel V8.

Instead, we'll get the Lanzador, which the automaker introduced last year. It was a two-door electric car with more than 1300 hp that was supposed to go into production in 2028. Now, Lamborghini says it will hit the market late this or early next decade. So the brand still has a long way to go before Lanzador will appear.
