And here we are again. After all, what would a Porsche 911 portfolio be without a large number of different Porsche 911s? Therefore, in Zuffenhausen, they are gradually filling the gaps in the facelift of the 992 model (992.2 in the language of connoisseurs). After the Carrera models, the Carrera GTS with the fantastic new T-Hybrid and the 911 GT3, the Carrera S has now also undergone a facelift.
The most important feature for the "faster, higher and further" faction: more power, of course. The boys and girls at the 911 engine forge squeezed 3,0 hp more out of the 911-liter biturbo boxer (Porsche now cheekily calls it "iconic" in a press release) with new turbochargers and an intercooler in the 30 Turbo. The result is a total of 480 hp and 530 Nm. This matches the power of the old 911 GTS model. Or 997.1 Turbo.
When it comes to acceleration, the old turbocharger will have no place. The upgraded Carrera S now needs just 3,3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, and its top speed is 308 km/h. There are no fuel consumption figures yet, Porsche only talks about “additional efficiency”. If you’re wondering why we don’t show separate figures for the manual transmission version, it’s because the manual transmission version no longer exists. The only option in the new Carrera S version is the 8-speed PDK transmission. The Germans are not giving a reason for this yet.
Fans of three pedals (and all other buyers) are put off by the extensive range of standard equipment. This now includes 20/21-inch wheels with mixed tires, a Torque Vectoring Plus system not available on the regular Carrera, fat brakes from the current 911 GTS model with 408mm discs at the front and 380mm discs at the rear, and a sports exhaust system with silver tailpipes pipes.
Those looking to increase driving dynamics even further can opt for PCCB ceramic brakes and PASM adaptive sports suspension with 10mm lowering and rear axle steering. Damper optimizations are said to provide greater accuracy and more precise response. Those who order rear-axle steering also get a more direct steering ratio and newly adapted front-axle kinematics, which should increase the vehicle's agility.
Inside the facelift-992, the hot news is the first use of a start button (to the left of the steering wheel, of course) and new, fully digital instruments. This also applies to the Carrera S model. Otherwise, Porsche advertises a rather extensive leather interior. This includes the glove box lid, side panels and seat bottoms. Porsche can add contrasting chalk stitching on request. Overall, the Carrera S receives improved standard equipment across the model range. This includes, for example, Matrix LED headlights and wireless smartphone charging. Options include a front axle lift system and HD Matrix LED headlights.
The new 911 Carrera S model is now available as a rear-wheel drive coupé and convertible. Prices for the 911 Carrera S in Germany start at 154.800 euros for the coupe. The Cabriolet costs from 169.000 euros. The Carrera S version before this facelift carried a base price of 120.129 euros. For comparison: the new Carrera GTS with a 540 hp hybrid engine starts at 170.000 euros as a coupe.
