A fragment of the Sultan of Brunei's collection in pictures

Few car collections are as intriguing as the sea of exotic cars owned by the Sultan of Brunei. You've probably heard of it, but you may not know much about it other than that it's a collection of supercars that have been more or less untouched for decades. The collection was amassed by the Sultan's brother, who was reportedly forced to hand it over to the government in the late 1990s due to shady financial dealings.

We're talking thousands of cars - the exact number is unknown. Now we know a little more about the collection. And it's a stunning one. A new Instagram account called brunei_cars_2001 has just taken social media by storm with posts featuring McLarens, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Bentleys, lots of Bentleys, and a whole bunch of other interesting cars. And we're not talking about, say, the usual exotics like a Ferrari 360 or a Porsche 911. At the top of the list are three McLaren F1s. Even if we're being very conservative, it's probably worth around $60 million.

There are a total of 95 posts on the Instagram account, each with multiple photos attached. This is by far the most detailed account of the Sultan of Brunei's collection, and it seems like it's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. But there are still a number of questions. Rumor has it that these photos date back to around 2001, and were allegedly leaked by a photographer at an auction house. That's why they could be cars that have since found other owners, or perhaps no longer exist. That's also why this collection is so intriguing.
