The conversion, carried out by local company New Armada, aims to provide a more affordable alternative to the popular Toyota Fortuner SUV, which is based on the larger Hilux.
The SUV, based on the Hilux Champ, retains the front end of the aforementioned pickup truck, but has a completely redesigned rear end, which houses a spacious passenger cabin with three rows of seats for seven passengers. The exterior design features a boxy design and a generous amount of plastic trim, while the interior boasts a 2+3+2 seating configuration with faux leather upholstery.

Under the hood, customers can choose between a 2,0-liter petrol engine with 102 kW (137 hp) and a 2,4-liter turbodiesel with 110 kW (148 hp). Both engines can be mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, depending on the version.
The newcomer is expected to be priced quite competitively in the Indonesian market, with the base petrol version starting at under 400 million Indonesian rupiah (approx. 24.000 EUR). This makes it significantly more affordable than the Toyota Fortuner, which starts at 573,7 million rupiah (34.000 EUR).
The Toyota Hilux Rangga SUV will be available in Indonesia early next year, offering buyers a practical and affordable option in the SUV segment. It is still unclear whether Toyota will expand the model's availability to other markets.
