Subaru's second electric car is here. The Trailseeker has just been unveiled at the New York International Auto Show. It's an SUV-hatchback hybrid with standard all-wheel drive that's set to slot above the existing Solterra.
The Subaru Trailseeker shares much of its design with the refreshed Solterra, with a longer and taller body. There's more cargo space, more headroom and a flat floor for more legroom. Under the hood is a similar powertrain, but in the U.S. the Trailseeker comes standard with Tesla's NACS charging connector, which gives it access to more than 15.000 Superchargers across North America.

Technical data, performance and range
The 74,7 kWh battery pack in the bottom of the Trailseeker is the same as the Solterra, and powers two electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear. Subaru says the two motors together produce “approximately” 375 hp. That’s enough for a 0-100 time estimated at 4,4 seconds and a range of more than 420 miles.

The Trailseeker has 21cm of ground clearance – the same as the Solterra – and a towing capacity of over 1,6 tonnes. The biggest difference is in the shape: the Trailseeker is six centimetres longer and almost a centimetre taller than the Solterra, offering more space to store your belongings.
Design and interior
The Trailseeker shares many of its looks with the smaller Solterra. The vehicles, which were unveiled at the New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, feature a new front fascia with an illuminated six-star logo, new headlights and a new bumper design.

There's a new three-dimensional logo on the rear, and 18- and 20-inch wheels are available. Black plastic trim on all sides is supposed to exude a sense of adventure. We'll see if buyers see that. The Trailseeker's design also bears some resemblance to the combustion-engined Subaru Outback.
Inside, the Trailseeker features a large, horizontally mounted 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, of course, as are Subaru EyeSight driver assistance features. Two wireless charging stations for mobile phones are located below the screen. USB-C charging ports are available for rear-seat passengers.

Pricelist
Subaru has not yet announced pricing for the Trailseeker. The company says it will provide more specific performance and range information closer to the U.S. market launch in early 2026. It is not yet known if and when the model will also come to Europe.
