Japan's latest police car is hard to overtake

The police officers who patrol the roads around the legendary Suzuka racetrack in Japan have a new car. Unlike the Toyota sedans usually used by the Mie Prefecture police, this one has 573 horsepower.

The police took delivery of a special Honda NSX at a ceremony at the Suzuki racetrack, complete with a full reveal and musical performance. The car sports the traditional black and white livery of Japanese police, with “Police” lettering on both doors and red lights on the roof. Honestly, it looks great.

The office did not purchase or seize the NSX (production of which ended at the end of 2022). Instead, the car was donated by 43-year-old real estate magnate Toshiya Kobayashi, according to Japanese publication Chunichi. Kobayashi, who describes himself as a “racing enthusiast,” was present at the ceremony and, after watching the car lap the Suzuka circuit in a slow demonstration run at 100 km/h, exclaimed, “That’s cool! Maybe they were a little bit cautious about the speed,” Chunichi joked.

The car is worth 25 million yen (about 154.000 euros), including all the modifications necessary for patrol use. The car will be on display at the parade in Suzuki before the SuperGT race in August, The Drive reports. If you want to see the NSX police car live, there is still time to book tickets. This is not the first time that the Japanese police have used sports cars. According to The Drive, there have already been Nissan GT-R, Skyline, 350Z and RX-7 models in the same black and white color. But our favorite may be the Land Cruiser, which is suitable for patrol.

If you'd rather see some real supercars, you'll have to travel to Dubai. The Middle Eastern city is known for maintaining a fleet of spectacular sports cars for events, including the Bugatti Veyron, Porsche 918 Spyder and Lamborghini Aventador. In Italy, Lamborghini also serves the police. In December 2023, the Urus Performante will join the long-standing Huracán LP610-4 for special missions such as emergency organ and plasma transport.
