Chery has launched its latest automotive brand, Himla, aimed at producing a comprehensive range of pickups across all three major market segments.
The first Himla model, unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, is a rugged mid-size pickup designed to compete with established players in the market, starting with the Toyota Hilux. The new brand reflects Chery's desire to expand its presence in the global pickup truck market, with plans to export vehicles to Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

The first Himla pickup truck is very similar to the previously seen KP11 prototype, with minor cosmetic changes such as a different color and wheel shape. It features a modern aesthetic with split LED headlights, imitation aluminum skid plates, a pronounced engine grille and flared wheel arches that give a sense of durability. Practical elements include integrated side steps on the rear bumper, robust alloy wheels fitted with off-road tires, and a significant ground clearance, suggesting an off-road version.
Inside, the cabin features a touchscreen infotainment system that resembles a Tesla interface and a digital instrument cluster. The light-colored upholstery resembles leather, and rear-seat passengers have their own air conditioning vents. The pickup truck appears to have a cargo area comparable in size to its mid-size competitors, including the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok, and Nissan Navara.
Details of the Himla's powertrain have not yet been released, but the industry expects the traditional ladder-frame chassis to deliver competitive payload and towing capacity. The engine lineup is expected to include a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, with an electrified powertrain also available in the future. Chery said the Himla brand will embody a combination of "irresistible off-road power and sophisticated design" in its future model lineup.
