Jeep has introduced the new Cherokee in the US. After the fifth generation of this mid-size SUV was discontinued in 2023, the sixth generation is expected to be introduced soon.
Our American colleagues report that the new version is based on the large STLA platform. Jeep has confirmed a hybrid drivetrain, and an electric drivetrain is also likely. And so the car is a topic for us too, although there are no technical details yet.
After a three-year hiatus, the Jeep Cherokee will be back in stock. According to the manufacturer, the new model will be introduced in the US market this year as a 2026 model year. Visually, the car borrows a lot from the Jeep Wagoneer S and the new Jeep Compass.

At the front, the brand's signature seven-slot grille is present, while the rest of the body has a familiar, robust design, although it is less edgy than the Compass. The rear also brings fresh accents: The shape of the lights is significantly different from the Compass.
The electric Cherokee would likely feature similar technology to the Wagoneer S. It has a 400-volt system with a 100 kWh battery for a range of 294 miles (478 km) under the demanding US EPA standard. The two electric motors together produce 600 hp (i.e. 447 kW) and 837 Nm of torque.

However, the performance of the electric Cherokee will likely be lower than that of its 4,89-meter-long big brother. The dimensions of the new Cherokee are not yet known, but the fifth generation was about 4,65 meters long. There are also no photos of the interior yet.

It is not yet known whether the electric Cherokee will also come to Europe. The Wagoneer S seems to be reserved for the US, but the smaller Cherokee could be different. In addition to the Avenger and the new Compass, which are also available as electric cars, Jeep currently offers the Renegade, Wrangler and the 4,91-meter-long Grand Cherokee in Germany. However, sales of the latter in Germany are slow: only around 100 units were sold last year. The Avenger and Compass, on the other hand, are the brand's bestsellers, with more than 4.000 units sold.
