Travis Pastrana takes on the revival of the legendary Gymkhana with a wild Subaru Brat pickup truck, nicknamed the "Brataroo."
Gymkhana is back – and with it comes a brand new, crazy vehicle. You might remember the Family Huckster – Travis Pastranas Subaru GL with its crazy active aerodynamics. We saw it in Gymkhana 12. Now comes an even more extreme machine: the “Brataroo 9500 Turbo”, a crazy 9.500 rpm Subaru Brat that made its debut at SEMA 2025.
As usual, the design is the work of the Vermont SportsCar (VSC) team. And it brings us impressive technical data. The 2,0-liter boxer engine, developed by VSC, has an output of 670 hp and 921 Nm of torque. How much the engine is supercharged remains unclear - as well as whether it is based on a Subaru EJ or FA engine. All that is certain is that all the power is transmitted to all four wheels via a Sadev transmission.
The body is made entirely of carbon fiber and includes active aerodynamic elements similar to those found on the Huckster. The front fenders have movable slats that can be tilted forward or backward to control aerodynamic balance in the air. The rear spoiler also actively adjusts during flight. There are two versions available: a larger spoiler for maximum drag and a smaller version for “tire destruction”. The designer of this rather brutal bodykit is Khyzyl Saleem, better known on social media as The Kyza.
The interior is adorned with a number of lovely details: the original radio has been restored and the air conditioning has been reworked to include active aerodynamics. The radio and Uniden CB radio are fitted purely for style.
Travis Pastrana sums it up nicely: “This car is absolutely insane – in the best sense of the word. It has the soul of a classic Subaru, combined with technology that allows it to do things no gymkhana car has ever done before. Every part is designed to be abused, to fly high, and to come back down again and again. This is without a doubt the craziest gymkhana car we’ve ever built.”
The new Gymkhana video "Aussie Shred", starring Brataroo, will be released in early December - it was shot, as the name suggests, in Australia. Anyone who knows Travis Pastrana knows that it will be spectacular, risky and completely crazy. Until then, we can only wait and hope that the boxer engine at 9.500 rpm in flight sounds as cool as we imagine.
