Smart #6 – Yes, this is really Smart!

You might think this Smart sedan was created in an artificial intelligence blender. But it's completely real, as evidenced by official images posted on the company's Weibo account in China. The #6 is a big car, and not just by Smart standards. At 4906 millimeters long, it's about as long as a BMW 7 Series. In fact, it's almost as long as two first-generation ForTwos.

It takes the title of the largest Smart car of all time from the #5, a crossover that was launched in mid-2024 with the brand's first plug-in hybrid configuration. The new sedan visually resembles the Mercedes CLA and the C-Class, but is even slightly larger than the extended version of the C-Class for China. Incidentally: the extended CLA for the Chinese market measures 4,76 meters. This gives the Smart #6 a wheelbase of 2.926 mm. The #6 measures 1.922 mm in width and 1.508 mm in height and rides on large 20-inch wheels that, due to the complex spoke design, seem difficult to clean.

An active rear spoiler with roof-mounted LiDAR shows how much the brand has changed since it became a 50:50 joint venture between Mercedes and Geely in 2019. New images have appeared on the website of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). In addition to the fresh photos, they also reveal that the Smart #6 weighs 2.099 kg in its heaviest configuration.

It wasn't just the size and shape of the body that caught our attention. The total range is also impressive, with Smart claiming that the #6 model will be able to travel 1.810 kilometers (1.125 miles) on a full tank and battery. However, this figure should be taken with a grain of salt, as it is based on the generous CLTC test cycle. Without the 1,5-liter internal combustion engine, the car can travel 285 kilometers on a single charge. As a plug-in hybrid, the Smart #6 is said to consume just 3,9 liters/100 km, which is not bad for such a large and probably heavy car. Total power is 429 hp.

Although Smart hasn't revealed the interior yet, we'd bet the dashboard is packed with screens. Chinese buyers are crazy about large screens that replace most traditional controls. This also explains why some established automakers have developed an unhealthy habit of replacing traditional switches with large screens in order to compete with newcomers from China.

The #6 model will go on sale in China next year and will likely remain a local product. In Europe, Smart will revive the ForTwo spirit with the upcoming #2 model.
