When Alois Ruf puts his name on a Porsche, it's clear: this car is something special. Normally you'd expect the Ruf emblem to be on a car that looks like a 911. But if you're looking for a real rarity, check out this car. It really doesn't get any rarer than that, as there is only one Porsche 928 by Ruf.
You read that right, the so-called Ruf 928R is a completely unique car that was built for former Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kun-Hee. Ruf started with a raw body (‘body-in-white’) before getting down to work. This also makes it clear: this is a real Ruf product and not just a Porsche 928 with different rims and a few emblems.
The car is up for sale at Gooding Christie's. The car will go on sale in early March on Amelia Island. However, the estimated price is quite high. The Mauritius Blue 928 is expected to sell for between $400.000 and $500.000 (€340.000 and €424.000).
It sounds a bit excessive, but since this is the only Ruf 928R ever built, it is unlikely that the car will not achieve this rating. Among the Ruf modifications is a 5,0-liter V8. In 1989, it was available with 320 hp in the 928 S4 and 330 hp in the 928 GT, both with 430 Nm of torque. Ruf increased this to 360 hp and 480 Nm. The burgundy interior with Alcantara steering wheel perfectly complements the black exterior.
The mileage is only 2.523 km. This 928 remained in the Samsung collection for several years before being brought home again by Ruf. During this time, the technical components were inspected. The 928R also received 19-inch Ruf wheels, which are matched with upgraded carbon-ceramic brakes, a classic Ruf radio and a modified exhaust system. The auction starts on March 5th at 21 p.m. German time.
