Google Pixel 10a: Different enough to claim the title of mid-range champion?

Although it's visually no different from its predecessor, Google has updated its new entry-level phone with key components to provide freshness in an extremely competitive market.

Google has unveiled the Pixel 10a, the latest model in its affordable A series, which enters our market with a starting price of around EUR 600. Although it is an “entry” model, Google did not skimp this time, as it built into the body technology that we have so far only been used to in their flagships. With a design where the camera does not protrude from the back panel, but is flush with the body, the phone looks more elegant and practical for everyday use. The construction is based on durability, with a satin frame made of recycled aluminum and the use of recycled precious metals, which gives it a premium touch.

Under the hood is the new Tensor G4 processor, which ensures reliable operation of the Gemini local artificial intelligence. The latter is not only for entertainment, but also brings concrete solutions, such as Satellite SOS for emergency calls where there is no mobile signal, and the advanced Circle to Search tool. The visual experience is provided by the 16-centimeter (6,3-inch) Actua display, which is 11% brighter than its predecessor, improving readability even in direct sunlight. Google also promises exceptional resistance to external influences with an IP68 rating and seven years of support with updates, which is a real marathon in the world of technology.

Driving performance – or in this case, photography – remains one of Google's main strengths. The main camera with 48 million pixels (megapixels) combined with an ultra-wide lens (13 MP) creates, according to the manufacturer, the best camera in its price range. New features such as the Add Me function, which subsequently "sticks" the photographer into a group photo, and Camera Coach for composition tips, elevate the level of photography that the Pixel 10a is capable of. The software with Gemini models even allows you to edit photos via voice commands, making it much easier to process shots after a hard day.

As for battery life, the Pixel 10a is said to last for over 30 hours on a single charge, with the phone going up to an impressive 120 hours in extreme power saving mode. Charging is now faster than its predecessor, although exact charging details haven't been revealed. The phone will be available from March 5 in four colors, including a new "Berry" and "Lavender" color.
