Prototypes have already predicted this, and now Audi has officially confirmed it: in the fall of 2026, the brand will expand its model range with the new A2 e-tron, introducing a fully electric entry-level model into the compact car segment for the first time.
The vehicle is being produced at the Ingolstadt plant and represents a new step in the strategic shift towards electric mobility. At the same time, the first design sketch already indicates the basic silhouette of the model.
The announcement was made at the annual media conference, where CEO Gernot Döllner presented the new electric model family. The A2 e-tron is intended to meet the demands of everyday life, combining efficiency, compact dimensions and a clear design positioning. The aim is to make electric mobility easier to access within the Audi brand and to focus it more strongly on the needs of a wider customer group.

This is the official announcement. The first preview image already reveals two things: firstly, the A2 e-tron will have a similar rear end to its predecessor from 1999. Secondly, the technical basis will probably be the VW ID.3, which will soon undergo a comprehensive redesign into the ID.3 Neo. We can therefore expect a length of around 4,25 meters. According to Audi, the A2 e-tron is aimed at an international target group that expects these features and is also looking to enter the premium segment. As part of the offer, the vehicle is expected to contribute to the rejuvenation of the brand and the acquisition of new customer groups.
The choice of model designation was deliberate. It refers to the former Audi A2, which was introduced more than 25 years ago as a technology-oriented car with an emphasis on efficiency and urban use. The A2 e-tron carries this approach into the electric age and conceptually upgrades it.

The production in Ingolstadt underlines the importance of this model for Germany as a production location. By introducing another series of fully electric vehicles, Audi is continuing to transform its factories and secure industrial capacity in its homeland. At the same time, it is working to establish German-made electromobility on the market.
After an extensive new model offensive in 2024 and 2025, in which more than 20 new vehicles were presented, Audi is entering the market with a relatively young portfolio. This strategy is planned to continue in 2026. In addition to the A2 e-tron in the compact segment, a series in the upper market segment will be introduced with the Q9, thereby expanding the range both downwards and upwards.
