Xiaomi Vision Gran Tourismo: The tech giant enters the world of virtual hypercars

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has followed a long line of car manufacturers and designed its own Vision Gran Turismo hypercar for the cult video game franchise.

This is the 51st vehicle in this series and, according to many, one of the most attractive ever. The elegant electric hypercar is distinguished by advanced aerodynamic elements, among which the Active Wake Control system stands out. This creates an airflow at the rear of the vehicle, which is pushed away from the rear through micro-perforations around the rear lights, thus reducing turbulence. Well, at least on the screens, of course.

Another special feature of the vehicle are the wild Accretion Rims. These are wheel covers in the shape of a vortex, which have turbine blades inside to cool the brakes. Magnets ensure that the covers remain stationary while driving, which reduces air resistance, which in this car is only 0,29. Inside, Xiaomi has tried to create the so-called “Sofa Racer” atmosphere. The dashboard, seats and door panels form a continuous loop around the cabin, complemented by a narrow screen under the windshield, a screen on the racing steering wheel and five-point seat belts.

The car is equipped with a number of sensors that monitor the environment and the driver, allowing the vehicle to adapt to the driver's mood. It includes artificial intelligence, a steer-by-wire system and all the other technological goodies we expect from a futuristic concept that lives in video games. The company even envisions a driving simulator based on the concept as part of the project, which underlines their ambitious vision of merging the digital and physical worlds.
