Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: New compact SUV with a retro touch

The Japanese manufacturer has officially launched the new Land Cruiser FJ model in Thailand, which combines a robust chassis design with modern technology and numerous personalization options.

The new Land Cruiser FJ is based on the proven IMV architecture and measures 4.610 mm in length, while the wheelbase is 2.580 mm. The vehicle is designed for serious off-road exploits, boasting a 245 mm ground clearance and the ability to overcome water obstacles up to a depth of 700 mm. Under the hood is a 2,7-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that develops power 122 kW (166 HP) and torque 245 NmPower is transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and selectable four-wheel drive with a rear differential lock.

At the launch, Toyota displayed four concept studies – Meridian, Nature Explorer, Legendary and Street Cruiser – that illustrate the modularity of the design and a wide range of optional equipment from renowned brands such as ARB, Old Man Emu and Brembo. The versions range from extreme off-roaders with a raised chassis by an additional 20 mm to city-oriented models with 20-inch wheels and more powerful braking systems. Customers are also offered dedicated equipment packages, such as the Unbound Explorer for around €918 and the Freedom Journey with an ARB roof rack for €1.030.

In the Thai market, the Land Cruiser FJ is available in a richly equipped version that includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 12,3-inch information display and a full range of ADAS assistance systems. The vehicle's entry price is approximately 35.885 EUR (1.269.000 Baht), which puts it right next to the top-spec Corolla Cross. While specifications are currently tailored to the Asian market, the model's placement in the global 250 and 300 series lineup remains a matter of future announcements.
