It almost doesn't get any smaller: the Ari 458 Pro surprises as a mini camper

Some motorhomes are getting bigger. The Ari 458 Pro with alcove bed goes the opposite direction, shrinking to the dimensions of a small car. At just over 3,5 meters long, it fits into almost any parking space, yet it aims to present itself as a real motorhome that can be ordered immediately.

The trend for ultra-compact travel has reached a new peak. Alongside solutions like the Kia PV5 with VanLab kit or other modular solutions, the Ari is a particularly clear demonstration of how little space is actually needed for living on the road – and how much freedom this minimalism can bring.

The Ari campervan with alcove is based on the 458 Pro lightweight electric delivery vehicle, which was originally designed for urban deliveries. With an output of 15 kW and a top speed of around 70 km/h, it is immediately clear where the road leads: it is not about speed, but about calm. In this case, travel really means the journey – not the arrival at the destination.

Depending on the size of the battery, it can travel between 120 and 230 kilometers. This may not seem like much, but it fits in surprisingly well with the concept. The Ari is not a car for the highway, but feels best on country roads, by lakes and on spontaneous weekend trips. Anyone who wants to go to the Adriatic with it needs one thing above all: time.

With a length of 3,50 to 3,82 meters and a width of only 1,49 meters, it behaves more like a covered cargo bike than a classic motorhome in traffic. Inside, the insulated cabin surprises with a standing height of up to 1,85 meters. Even taller people don't necessarily have to bend their heads when making coffee in the morning.

A playground for creative masters is created on just 2,8 square meters. The manufacturer from Saxony deliberately delivers the case empty, but with pre-prepared electrical cables, roof solar panels and water connections. The bed, storage space and equipment remain a project for anyone who prefers to arrange their camper themselves.

Technically, everything is deliberately simple: a 15 kW electric motor (about 20 hp), a top speed of 70 km/h and two battery options. The smaller battery with a capacity of 15 kWh allows a range of about 120 to 180 kilometers, while the larger one with a capacity of 23,5 kWh allows a range of up to 230 kilometers. There is no racing feeling here – but it doesn’t have to be.

Long road trips to Spain are therefore more of a test of patience with many stops to refuel. In return, Ari feels like a fish in water where larger motorhomes have long since given up: on narrow coastal roads, small parking lots and narrow access roads.

The price of this mobile "Tiny House" starts at just over 30.000 euros gross. For this price you don't get a fully equipped luxury motorhome, but a solid technical base with a ready-made upgrade. Compared to fully equipped motorhomes, this is still a relatively affordable entry price - of course, provided that you don't get out of control with your own equipment.

While the Kia PV5 with VanLab camping kit is more geared towards everyday use and range, the Ari remains deliberately minimalist. The Mini Silverdream offers more comfort at a similar length, but relies on an internal combustion engine and much more luxurious equipment. Ultralight trailers like the Dashaway eCT offer more living space, but always require a tow vehicle.

After all, the Ari 458 Pro is the opposite of the well-known leading models in the urban camper segment. Models like the Mercedes Marco Polo, Ford Transit Nugget or VW California focus on comfort and versatility. Ari, however, asks a different question: what is the minimum a camper really needs?
