Ferrari experienced first-hand what it means to suffer for success when testing its first electric car – the car proved to be for being too brutal.
Maranello is preparing for its most radical change yet – the arrival of the first all-electric Ferrari. To ensure that the in-car experience lives up to the brand’s reputation, they have brought in creative collective LoveFrom. The company was founded by Sir Jony Ive, former Apple chief designer and the man behind the iconic look of the iPhone. Its mission is clear: to work with Ferrari engineers to create a cabin that combines timeless Italian elegance with the digital future of electric vehicles.
But design is not the only challenge. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna revealed in an interview that they faced an unusual problem during development: brutal acceleration. Electric motors allow for such violent jolts that they can become downright disturbing or even unpleasant for the human brain. To find the line between adrenaline pleasure and physical discomfort, Ferrari turned to experts from NASA. Together, they conducted extensive medical studies to analyze how the human body and balance center react to extreme levels of acceleration.

Vigna emphasizes that too much acceleration is not necessarily a good thing if the passenger feels like they are just “waiting for it to finally stop.” Ferrari’s goal is not just to break records in the 100 km/h sprint, but to find the perfect balance where the power is still mesmerizing, but also digestible for the human body. The first electric jumping horse will thus be the result of a collaboration between top designers, rocket scientists and doctors, promising a car that will push the boundaries without unnecessarily inducing nausea.
