The cars Jaguar sacrificed in the name of electrification

In the style of British drama, Jaguar has "put away" almost all of its petrol legends, including the new F-Type, and placed all bets on electric. Now, instead of BMW, they are chasing Bentley in the mirror, while their customers in the showrooms only look at blank walls.

Jaguar's promise of an all-electric future has yet to translate into cars you can actually buy. The brand is currently in a strange state of not selling anything; production of all previous-generation petrol and electric models has ended, and there are no new ones in sight. The Type 00 concept, which we saw in late 2024, will not be ready for production until the summer, with orders expected to start in the autumn. First deliveries to customers are not scheduled until early 2027, leaving a significant gap in the sales network.

As we await the “electric revival,” details are emerging about the models Jaguar has sacrificed on the altar of its new strategy. In addition to the already known fate of the new electric XJ, which was recently canceled, three other key models were in the works. Former design chief Ian Callum revealed on the Road to Success podcast that they were planning a new XF sedan to compete with the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. A second-generation F-Pace was also in development, but development was halted to focus all efforts on the Type 00 project.

Perhaps the most painful news for fans of the brand is the revelation that Jaguar was also developing a successor to the F-Type sports car, which will unfortunately never see production. Callum, who led Jaguar's design for two decades, confirmed that all four models were "in the works" and in full development. The next generation of the luxury XJ was even "almost finished" before the project was abruptly halted with the order to start all over again on a completely new platform.

Jaguar is now betting everything on one card: a radically designed electric grand tourer, with which it moves into a higher price range. The brand no longer wants to compete with the German trio, but is aiming directly at Bentley. The production Type 00 is expected to cost more than 95.000 EUR, and a luxury SUV will follow at the end of 2027. Despite numerous speculations about possible hybrids, the owner of the brand Tata Motors remains adamant - the future of Jaguar will be exclusively electric, with no room for compromises with internal combustion.
