The digital revival of the sporty Alfa

With an independent design study, independent designer Memola Luigi revived the forgotten Brera model, at least in spirit, and transformed it into a modern, high-performance sports car.

Alfa Romeo eventually abandoned the Brera, which was available in both coupé and convertible (Spider) versions between 2005 and 2010. But now designer Memola Luigi, also known for the stunning LEA concept from 2019, has presented his vision for a modern successor to the Brera. The new interpretation retains the basic silhouette of the original, but introduces wider and lower proportions with a massive carbon-fiber aerodynamic package and a striking Scudetto grille, which would place the newcomer just below the exclusive 33 Stradale supercar.

Despite the exceptional design, Alfa Romeo is of course not developing a successor to the Brera, but rumors are spreading in the automotive industry about future powertrains that would suit the new sports car from the Milanese brand. Sources reveal that the upcoming models could get an inline six-cylinder engine that would develop as much as 404 kW (550 hp) of power in a hybrid version and offer well over 600 Nm of torque. Such a drive would easily allow the sports coupe to reach a top speed of over 290 km/h with an expected average consumption of around ten liters per hundred kilometers, while the starting price of such a prestigious model would certainly be well over hundreds of thousands.

Additional hope for the revival of Alfa's sports car comes from last year's hints that Maserati is developing a limited edition GranTurismo-based model with the most powerful internal combustion engine since the MC12 era. This exclusive car could also be launched with the Alfa Romeo badge and take on rivals such as the Aston Martin Vantage. Luigi's renderings with a racing-inspired diffuser and a Formula 1-style central brake light perfectly illustrate the bold potential that the Italian brand still has.
