Abt Sportsline has presented the Abt Cupra Formentor VZ5 635. The reason for this is the 130th anniversary of the Kempten-based company. The special series is limited to exactly 30 vehicles. The number of vehicles was chosen deliberately and is intended to be both a look back at the company's history and a technical statement.
Each Formentor special model is sold through official Cupra dealerships in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. No price information has been released yet. Technically, the model is based on the well-known five-cylinder turbo engine, which has a long history within the group.
With the Abt Power R performance optimization and the IWI system, Abt increases the output to around 467 kW or 635 hp. The top speed is 300 km/h. The engine is additionally supported by a turbocharger and an intercooler, which are supposed to stabilize the power development under high load.
The IWI (Indirect Water/Ethanol-Injection) system works on the principle of indirect injection of water and ethanol in front of the throttle valves. The system is controlled by a specially developed electronic control unit from Abt. The aim is to thermodynamically improve the combustion process.
The additional injection effectively cools the intake air, increasing its density and providing more oxygen for combustion. This enables constant power even in the upper load range. The filling level of the IWI system is monitored via a sensor and displayed in the myABT app.
The chassis, as an Abt sports suspension with adjustable height, has been specially adapted to the vehicle's performance. It is designed to meet the requirements of the Nordschleife and allows for individual adjustment of the rebound and compression damping. This allows the setting to be adapted to the intended use and driving profile. The system is complemented by Abt sports stabilizers, which support driving dynamics at high lateral acceleration and optimize power transfer.
The Formentor VZ5 635 is equipped with a special aerodynamic package. This includes Abt air vents at the front, rear spoiler extensions and a rear spoiler in glossy black. These elements are adapted to the vehicle's proportions and visibly change its silhouette towards a sporty design.
Inside, Abt focuses on discreet, model-specific accents. These include the cover for the start-stop switch, the floor mats with the embroidered VZ5 635 logo and the air vents with the embossed “1 of 30” inscription. Each vehicle is thus individually marked.
Daniel Abt, Marketing Director at Abt Sportsline and Cupra brand ambassador, describes the project as a consistent upgrade of the basic model: The Formentor was already a powerful car in its factory version, but the development team in Kempten has set new standards in dynamic driving in this class with its conversion.
