RML GT Hypercar: Underneath is a Porsche 911

With the GT Hypercar (internal designation P39), the RML Group has presented a thoroughly revised vehicle based on the Porsche 911. The technical basis is the 992 generation of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, whose platform, drive architecture and basic design served as the starting point for the project.

On this basis, a completely redesigned vehicle concept was developed, designed for both road and high-performance driving. On April 25, RML Group presented another unique version of the GT Hypercar at the Air / Water event in Costa Mesa, California. The vehicle is inspired by American racer Graham Rahal and is an individually configured version of the P39 concept.

This 4,70-meter-long concept car draws inspiration from the GT1 era of the 90s, both in terms of design and technology. This inspiration is reflected in the aerodynamic design, dynamic handling settings and the functional design of the entire vehicle. The aim is to combine high performance with practical everyday usability.

The body is still based on the 911 architecture, and the Porsche genes are visible both at the front and at the rear. However, it has been modified in almost all important areas. These include the exterior cladding made entirely of carbon fiber, modified aerodynamics and adjustments to the chassis and drive system. Visible carbon elements are integrated into the air intakes, bumpers and rear spoiler, among other things. The vehicle presented is painted in a strong orange color, complemented by dark rims and color-coordinated brake calipers.

The technical development focuses on a heavily modified 3,8-liter boxer engine with twin turbocharging. Depending on the driving mode, the power output ranges from around 600 hp in "Wet" mode, around 750 hp in normal mode and up to 912 hp in sports or racing mode. Maximum torque is up to 1.000 Nm at 4.500 rpm, and is expected to exceed 800 Nm at 3.000 rpm. The power is transmitted via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission in conjunction with an all-wheel drive system that has been taken from the series basis and adapted.

In addition, active aerodynamic systems are used at the front and rear of the vehicle. There are also several driving modes available, allowing for different performance and driving characteristics. The exhaust system is made of Inconel and designed to handle the thermal load of high-performance operation.

The driving dynamics are determined by a flexible setup that allows for a number of different characteristics. In addition to the operating modes, various aerodynamic and chassis configurations are also available. These include hydraulically adjustable chassis height, adjustable damper settings and an active aerodynamic system. This includes an adjustable rear spoiler, an adjustable front splitter and a drag reduction mode (DRS) that can be activated by the driver.

In the track configuration, significantly higher downforce is achieved, which, according to the manufacturer, is much higher than the value of the production 911 Turbo S. According to reports, a time of 6:45 on the north loop of the Nürburgring is possible.

The interior follows a functional concept that is clearly focused on the driver. Leather and Alcantara surfaces are used in a combination of gray, orange and black shades. The integrated half-roll cage made of steel emphasizes the sporty character of the vehicle. The interior is designed to allow for easy operation and a direct driver environment.

The vehicle is part of the RML Group's individualized production approach, in which the basic technical Porsche 911 vehicles are transformed into independent high-performance vehicles through extensive development measures. A total of 39 vehicles are planned. The collaboration with Graham Rahal and his environment serves as the design starting point for this special version.
