Following the March presentation of the redesigned flagship GLS SUV, Mercedes-Benz is already intensively preparing the ground for its most prestigious version.
A short teaser video has been posted on Instagram, revealing the distinctive light signature of the upcoming Mercedes-Maybach GLS. It will feature an illuminated grille surround and integrated star motifs in the headlights, which are guarded by narrow LED daytime running lights. The prestigious appearance will be complemented by an illuminated Maybach logo under the classic Mercedes star, which will be available shortly after the start of sales, and special lights that illuminate the floor next to the vehicle will provide an additional level of visibility in the dark.
Although Mercedes has not yet officially confirmed a premiere date, we expect the luxury SUV to see the light of day later this year. Considering that about two months have passed between the launch of the new S-Class and its Maybach version, we could see the new GLS by the end of the summer. The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS will inherit many of the upgrades of the regular model, with the main star of the interior likely to be the advanced MBUX Superscreen. This includes no fewer than three screens, bringing the latest generation of the in-house infotainment system.
Under the hood, we expect the latest version of Mercedes' eight-cylinder engine. In the refreshed regular GLS, a 4,0-liter V8 with twin turbos and a flat-head camshaft produces 530 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. Although this is slightly less than the previous model's 550 "horses", Mercedes will likely increase these numbers for the Maybach version. The Maybach GLS will, of course, offer a long list of luxury features and improvements. Prices for the current GLS start at around 159.000 euros, and the updated Maybach version will certainly be at least as expensive, if not more expensive.
