The redesigned and more spacious crossover enters the market with an advanced digitalized interior and a wide selection of electric and hybrid powertrains.
Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the new generation of the GLA, which brings a more prestigious design and noticeably larger dimensions. The crossover now measures 4.565 mm in length, 1.873 mm in width and 1.604 mm in height, while the wheelbase has been extended to 2.790 mm. This increase is reflected in a more spacious cabin with more legroom and a larger trunk, which now basically accommodates 410 liters of luggage, while the electric versions offer an additional 107 liters of front space under the hood. The interior has been technologically extensively upgraded, as the basic equipment combines a 10,25-inch digital display in front of the driver and a 14-inch central information system, which can be expanded with the optional 14-inch MBUX Superscreen for the passenger.
The majority of the range is initially represented by fully electric versions, among which the basic model GLA 200 Electric offers 165 kW (224 hp) and 335 Nm of torque and accelerates to 100 km/h in 8,1 seconds. A step higher is the GLA 250+ Electric version, which is capable of 200 kW (272 hp) and 335 Nm of torque and with an 85 kWh battery offers a maximum range of up to 657 kilometers. The top of the range is the all-wheel drive GLA 350 4MATIC Electric with 260 kW (354 hp) and 515 Nm of torque, which reaches a hundred in 5,4 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 210 km/h for all models. The most powerful versions support fast charging with a power of up to 320 kW, and the starting price for the electric model in Germany is 48.600 euros.
Next year, the electric fleet will be joined by hybrid versions, available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The basis will be a 1,5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, which will work together with a 1,3 kWh battery and an electric motor with a power of 22 kW (30 hp) integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is expected that versions with a system power of 142 kW (193 hp) and a more powerful 162 kW (220 hp) will be available. The renewed GLA also includes the advanced assistance system MB.Drive Assist, which enables semi-autonomous driving at the second level, and the first orders for the European market are opening this week.
