The Jeep Avenger for the 2027 model year comes with technical and visual changes and continues to offer customers a choice of four different powertrain options: a classic turbocharged gasoline engine, an e-hybrid with 48-volt technology, a fully electric drive (BEV) and a 4xe hybrid version with all-wheel drive.
At the heart of the Avenger 4xe is an electrified all-wheel drive system with a total system output of 107 kW (145 PS). The basis is a three-cylinder internal combustion engine with a displacement of 1.199 cc and an output of 100 kW (136 PS), supported by two electric motors with an output of 21 kW (29 PS each. One of them is mounted directly on the rear axle and, according to Jeep, can transmit up to 1.900 Nm of torque to the rear wheels.
Power is transmitted via the eDCT6 dual-clutch transmission. With a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1.750 rpm, this all-wheel drive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9,5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 194 km/h. Combined fuel consumption according to the WLTP standard is 5,3 to 5,4 liters per 100 kilometers.
In terms of bodywork, the 4xe model clearly differs from its brothers in the same series. With a length of 4.113 mm, it is almost three centimeters longer and, with a height of 1.582 mm, it is about four centimeters taller than the standard Avenger. The wheelbase is also slightly longer at 2.563 mm. The width of 1,80 meters is the same as that of its civilian brothers in the Avenger series.
The improved off-road capabilities stand out in particular: while the front-wheel drive models can ford a water depth of 230 mm, the 4xe model almost doubles this value to 400 mm. In addition, it has slightly optimised chassis angles of 22 degrees at the front and 35 degrees at the rear, and a gradient of 21 degrees. The brake system is dimensioned to meet the requirements with brake discs with a diameter of 302 mm on the front axle and 268 mm on the rear axle.
Unfortunately, the Avenger 4xe, unlike its larger brothers from the same series, lacks specially designed off-road bumpers, which means that the plastic quickly comes into contact with the ground on steep descents. This becomes apparent even during a short off-road drive. The Avenger “Four by e” (that’s how Jeep pronounces 4xe) is therefore interesting primarily as a second car for mountainous areas with heavy snow. So that you can go to the store there in the white beauty.
The 4xe version is visually distinguished by special details such as vertical red elements on the front bumper, black brand emblems and a red towbar at the rear. This model also comes standard with LED fog lights and roof racks. The interior of the four-wheel drive version uses durable, washable green interior trim.
The additional all-wheel drive technology has an impact on weight. With a curb weight of 1.455 kg, the 4xe model is a noticeable 175 kg heavier than the weaker 1.2 e-Hybrid model, but remains slightly lighter than the all-electric version. The maximum payload is reduced to 375 kg due to design constraints, while the towing capacity is an average of 1.150 kg.
The rear electric motor also reduces the boot volume: the normal boot volume is reduced to 325 liters (or 1.218 liters with the rear seats folded down). Anyone hoping for great sound will also have to accept a compromise in this all-wheel drive vehicle: the optional JBL Premium Audio system is explicitly not available for the 4xe versions in the price list.
Entry into the world of the Avenger with all-wheel drive is reserved for three higher, more robustly equipped versions. That's why the 4xe model is not exactly cheap. The "Upland" version starts at 34.300 euros and already includes red visual accents, roof racks and 17-inch black alloy wheels with M+S tires. Above it is the special "85th Anniversary" model, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Jeep brand, which costs 35.900 euros and offers, among other things, Matrix LED headlights, an illuminated 7-slot radiator grille and a special tartan interior.
The top of the range is the "Overland" line for 36.500 euros gross. This is particularly distinguished by its green dashboard with topographic lines and ambient lighting, and includes a magnetic tunnel cover in the typical 4xe design as standard, while the seats are made of water-repellent and particularly durable material.
Is it possible to find a cheaper car with four-wheel drive? The small Suzuki Swift with real four-wheel drive, including visco-clutch and manual transmission, is available from 22.800 euros. The Vitara 1.4 Boosterjet Hybrid Allgrip from the same manufacturer is available from 31.600 euros. The cheapest Dacia Duster Hybrid-G 150 4×4 in Germany costs at least 27.490 euros.
At KGM, formerly Ssangyong, the Tivoli model in the Avenger version with four-wheel drive and 163 PS is available from 20.990 euros, and with an automatic transmission for 22.990 euros. Some will be patiently waiting for the Fiat Grande Panda 4×4, which was already presented as a concept.
